Laramie, UW History/Authors Featured on C-SPAN Nov. 1-3

“Laramie Weekend,” showcasing Laramie and the University of Wyoming’s history and nonfiction literary life of the city, will be featured on C-SPAN Friday-Sunday, Nov. 1-3.

“Laramie Weekend” is part of C-SPAN's Cities Tour, which features local authors for the cable network’s Book TV on C-SPAN2 and American History TV on C-SPAN3.

In conjunction with local cable provider Spectrum, the C-SPAN Cities Tour producers visited various literary and historic sites, and interviewed local historians and nonfiction authors in the Laramie area earlier this month.

Local segments recorded during the C-SPAN visit will air on Book TV locally on Spectrum channels 19 and 618, and American History TV on Spectrum channels 13 and 619 this weekend.

Laramie Mayor Joe Shumway's segment will kick off “Laramie Weekend” Friday, Nov. 1, airing on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal program between 5-8 a.m. C-SPAN is available in Laramie on Spectrum channels 18 and 617.

Shumway’s segment also is available online at www.c-span.org/citiestour after it airs.

Local historians/authors will be featured on either Book TV Saturday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m.; or on American History TV Sunday, Nov. 3, at noon.

Featured on American History TV will be:

-- Laramie Plains Museum.

-- Deerwood Ranch Wild Horse EcoSanctuary.

-- Wyoming House for Historic Women.

-- Wyoming Territorial Prison historic site.

Featured on Book TV will be authors and their books:

-- UW Professor Jeff Lockwood, "Behind the Carbon Curtain: The Energy Industry, Political Censorship and Free Speech.”

-- David Kruger, UW librarian, “J.C. Penney: The Man, the Store and American Agriculture.”

-- UW Professor Tracey Owens Patton and UW graduate Sally Schedlock, “Gender, Whiteness and Power in Rodeo: Breaking Away from the Ties of Sexism and Racism.”

-- UW Professor Renee Laegreid, “Women on the North American Plains.”

A special “Laramie Weekend” webpage for each segment will be available to view after all the programs air at www.c-span.org/citiestour. All Laramie/UW video segments will be available indefinitely on the C-SPAN video library site at www.c-span.org.

The C-SPAN Cities Tour explores the American story -- traveling the country to feature the literary life and history of American cities on Book TV and American History TV channels the first and third weekend of each month.
