Search Committee Training Sessions at UW

The University of Wyoming Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will offer two key training sessions regarding search committees.

For the first half, Christi Carter, diversity analyst, recruiter and trainer, will discuss inclusive recruiting strategies for faculty and administrative searches; why we should diversify our candidate pool; how to conduct a fair and equitable search; and the requisition workflow in HCM.

For the second half, Chief Diversity Officer Emily Monago will facilitate a more in-depth look at bias and how it relates to efforts in recruitment; evaluation of candidates; hiring practices; and departmental reflection.

The dates, times and locations of these sessions are:  

-- Tuesday, Feb. 11, 9-11 a.m., Coe Library, Room 506.

-- Wednesday, March 4, 1-3 p.m., Coe Library, Room 506.

-- Thursday, April 23, noon-2 p.m., Coe Library, Room 506.

-- Friday, May 8, 10 a.m.-noon, Coe Library, Room 506.

Conducting a Fair and Equitable Search: Best Practices is available on the website for the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, along with other information regarding the search process. This resource provides information, resource links and guidance for search committees, including ways to prepare your area for diverse recruitment; effective and fair methods for evaluating candidates; information on implicit bias and evaluator error; and ways to welcome new diverse faculty and staff.

Search committee members and chairs are required to attend if they did not participate in a session in 2019 with the recent move to HCM from HRMS. These sessions are open to any faculty or staff who wish to learn more about conducting fair and equitable searches for faculty and administrative positions.
