UWs Big Event Laramie Community Service Program Oct. 9

A year after being canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, the University of Wyoming’s eighth annual The Big Event returns to the Laramie community Saturday, Oct. 9.

Sponsored by UW’s Service, Leadership and Community Engagement (SLCE) office, The Big Event promotes campus and community unity through service-oriented activities. UW students come together for one day to express their gratitude for the support from the surrounding community. This event is free to the Laramie community, and for students and alumni.

Student volunteers help with various projects that can be large or small, such as exterior painting and yardwork. Job requests can be submitted through Friday, Sept. 24, or when the capacity for job requests is reached.

A number of changes will be implemented this fall to minimize risk for community members and student, faculty and staff volunteers. While additional changes may be necessary as this event approaches, key changes already in place include:

-- Only outdoor jobs will be accepted.

-- The overall number of jobs accepted will be reduced to allow for greater safety oversight.

-- Students, faculty and staff participants will be required to comply with state, local and institutional COVID-19 policies that are in place at the time of the event.

Community members can register projects for student volunteers through the job request form found at www.uwyo.edu/bigevent or by calling the SLCE office at (307) 766-3117. A SLCE staff member or volunteer will perform a site check before the job request is accepted and will contact community members who submit job requests.
