Riner, Wu to Perform in UW Faculty Recital Series Sept. 18

Nicole Riner and Chi-Chen Wu

The University of Wyoming Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series continues Sunday, Sept. 18, with a performance by Nicole Riner, flute, and Chi-Chen Wu, piano.

The performance will take place at 3 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The recital is free and open to the public.

Riner and Wu will team up once again to perform Schubert’s “Arpeggione” sonata. The duo will perform additional works by contemporary composers Valerie Coleman and Mark Hudson, and also the Wyoming premiere of nonbinary composer Zaq Latino’s “fitting-in.”

Riner, a UW visiting assistant professor, teaches flute and music entrepreneurship, and she serves as president of Flute New Music Consortium, a national nonprofit commissioning organization. Her latest album, “Aviary,” will be released on the Aerocade Music label this fall.

Wu, a UW associate professor of piano, has received excellence in teaching awards from the Great Piano Masters International Piano Competition, and she has received awards from the Taiwan International Classical and Traditional Music Awards. Her newest album, “Schumann Fantasie and Carnaval,” recently won a silver medal award for Best Classical Album in the Global Music Awards.
