Accessibility Town Halls Scheduled Nov. 2

The University of Wyoming Accessibility Committee will host a series of town-hall meetings next week for faculty, staff and students to obtain a better sense of how people experience access and accessibility on campus.

Separate virtual town-hall meetings are scheduled, with Zoom links provided, for:

-- Students, Wednesday Nov. 2, 5:30-6:30 p.m., https://zoom.us/j/96278646366.

-- Staff, Thursday, Nov. 3, noon-1 p.m., https://zoom.us/j/96278646366.

-- Faculty, Friday, Nov. 4, noon-1 p.m., https://zoom.us/j/95130901325.

“Accessibility is a community endeavor, and these town halls are intended to help inform the Accessibility Committee of how our community experiences accessibility or the lack of it,” says Kate McLaughlin, UW Disability Support Services director. “Accessibility is a broad topic, so we are interested in hearing a wide range of concerns as they relate to campus spaces.”

She says these may include physical barriers, perhaps in buildings, sidewalks or classrooms.

“We also are interested in digital accessibility. So, if people are having issues with websites, listservs or classroom materials, this would be a good forum to share those concerns,” McLaughlin adds. “This input will inform the work of the committee so that we can make responsive changes in the future.”

Some issues for respondents to consider include areas where access and accessibility could be improved, as well as ways the committee and institution can better support increased access. The town-hall meetings are open forums to express concerns/ideas on any aspect of accessibility, McLaughlin says.

An anonymous survey also is available to provide input at https://uwyo.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_dbtwrJNnpMjUszs.
