State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

Invasive lake trout are impacting an entire Yellowstone Lake ecosystem, according to researchers, including Lusha Tronstad, a research scientist with the Wyoming Natural Diversity Database at UW, Smart Water Magazine, National Parks Traveler, Earth.com and Tech Times reported.

New York Times reporter Sebastian Modak mentioned Laramie, the home to UW, as a destination spot while he was researching his article about the 150th anniversary of women’s suffrage in Wyoming. The article said the anniversary was an opportunity to shine a light on the state’s significance for women’s rights.

UW scientists were among researchers noting that two isolated mountain lion populations in Southern California’s mountains are at risk of local extinction, according to a University of California-Davis media release. The study first appeared in the journal Ecological Applications and was reprinted by Science Magazine.

KGWN TV interviewed Chad Baldwin, UW associate vice president for communications and marketing, who discussed the rise in UW merchandise sales, thanks to “The World Needs More Cowboys” campaign.

Tara Righetti, a UW associate professor of law, told Earth and Space Science News that last week’s ruling by a federal judge temporarily halting oil and gas leases on Wyoming public lands has some states such as Colorado introducing legislation that potentially could change how state agencies regulate oil and gas permitting.

The Casper Star-Tribune (CS-T) followed up on a UW media release noting UW scientists studied how elk largely avoid thousands of acres of beetle kill areas in Wyoming’s southeast mountains.

The Wyoming Pathways from Prison program, developed by UW faculty and staff members, is among sponsors of the Symposium on Transformative Education in Prison and Beyond on campus this week, reported The Laramie Boomerang.

The CS-T interviewed UW economist Jason Shogren, who said Wyoming has no other industries besides the energy industry that could generate more millionaires for an article asking why the rich are not moving to the state because of lower taxes.

Coyotes, Wolves and Cougars, an outdoor enthusiasts website, published UW’s release highlighting university scientists’ research indicating that moose in western Wyoming are less likely to change their behavior to avoid wolves as winter progresses.

Gov. Mark Gordon signed a proclamation designating last Wednesday as Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Day, according to Sheridan Media. The SBDC Network is a partnership among UW, the Wyoming Business Council and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Keystone Business News noted that UW ranked 63rd on the list of highest grossing college football programs nationwide.

Sheridan Media also published UW’s release about the third annual UW Entrepreneurship Summit April 17-18.

The Boomerang noted that an attorney for Lyle Williams, a Uinta County man who was cited in 2018 for carrying a gun on UW’s campus, has filed the opening brief in an appeal of a December ruling by Tori Kricken, Albany County District Court judge.

UW’s release announcing a Saturday University program in Cody’s Buffalo Bill Center of the West this week was published in The Billings Gazette.

UW Nordic skiers Matt Williams and Sydney Wiswell, both from Jackson, were featured in their hometown newspaper, The Jackson Hole News and Guide. The UW skiers competed at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association national meet in Jackson last week.
