State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

Wyoming Public Media, The Laramie Boomerang and The Philadelphia Inquirer were among media outlets announcing that current UW Vice President for Finance and Administration Neil Theobald has been named acting president by the UW Board of Trustees. The Chronicle of Higher Education also noted the transition.

UW officials will seek nearly $50 million from the state Legislature for remodeling projects to Corbett Pool and the west side of War Memorial Stadium, according to The Gillette News Record.

Wyoming Public Media also covered UW’s annual Women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Conference, which took place May 21 on UW’s campus. Changes to alpine streams fed by glaciers and snowfields due to a warming climate threaten to alter the types of bacteria and other microbes in those streams, according to a UW media release published by Smart Water Magazine. Lusha Tronstad, research scientist with the Wyoming Natural Diversity Database, located at UW, was among researchers on the project, the article noted.

WyoFile interviewed Sam Kalen, UW College of Law associate dean, for an article focusing on whether the state should take over functions required by the federal National Environmental Policy Act and why that would be a bad idea.

UW’s successful marketing video “The World Needs More Cowboys” was featured on Casper’s 95.5 All Country radio station’s website.

Costly cancer lawsuits have spread shock among both farmers and researchers after Monsanto lost a recent case, Andrew Kniss, a UW plant sciences professor, said in a Science Magazine article. Monsanto is the leading manufacturer of glyphosate, the world’s most widely used herbicide that has been linked to causing cancer. Genetic Literacy Project republished the article on its website.

The Casper Star-Tribune noted that UW has restored a degree program in career and technical education. The program trains teachers in vocational education.

The UW Board of Trustees approved WyoVentures LLC, a business arm of the university, reported The Wyoming Tribune Eagle. The program will create and maintain an educational entrepreneurship resource infrastructure that will be an accessible point of entry for startup ventures in Wyoming.

Star Valley Independent reported that Barbara Rasco has been selected dean of the UW College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

UW signed an agreement with Clean Coal Technologies Inc. to develop a cleaner-burning coal in the Powder River Basin, reported Oil City News.

Sheridan Media interviewed Chad Baldwin, UW associate vice president for communications and marketing, about major and minor degrees in entrepreneurship being offered by UW this fall. He also discussed how UW is joining other institutions in upgrading their Doctor of Education programs through the Carnegie Project.
