State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

UW Associate Professor Christine Porter, the Wyoming Excellence Chair in Community and Public Health, spoke with The Daily Beast about Gov. Mark Gordon’s statewide face mask mandate and the need to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

The Casper Star-Tribune (CS-T) reported that the UW Board of Trustees is reviewing a proposal that would reshape the spring semester by offering 10 weeks of in-person classes and a three-day spring break, followed by online classes for the remainder of the semester. Trustees will vote on the proposal this week. Wyoming Public Media also carried a similar story.

Zach Wallace, a UW assistant research scientist, discussed with National Geographic about illegal shootings of protected animals, which researchers say are more common than originally thought.

Wyoming Public Media interviewed UW Professors Danny Dale and David Fay about the COVID-19 vaccine and the scientific process of getting it approved.

According to a new survey by the Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center (WYSAC) at UW, a majority of state residents have steadily changing opinions regarding the use and possession of marijuana, The CS-T reported. KGAB Radio and The Wyoming Tribune Eagle published UW’s release. Marijuana Moment published a similar article.

County 10 reported that UW received a nearly $600,000 Department of Energy grant to develop coal-derived carbon building materials from Powder River Basin coal pyrolysis products.

UW economics Professor Tim Considine presented a preliminary report illustrating possible limits to public land extraction and its impacts to Wyoming’s economy to a Wyoming legislative committee, reported Wyoming Public Radio. The committee is discussing approval for a major oil and gas project in Converse County.

The CS-T and Cowboy State Daily reported that support for mask usage in Wyoming continues to grow, according to the latest survey from WYSAC at UW.

Jessica Western, a research associate with UW’s Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, discussed with Wyoming Public Radio a new survey that indicates Wyoming residents’ support of all forms of energy in the state. UW’s Haub School and School of Energy Resources conducted the survey.

The Jackson Hole News and Guide interviewed Brett Befus, UW Foundation associate vice president for development, for an article on charitable donations, especially during the ongoing pandemic.

A survey, conducted by WYSAC at UW, indicated that the majority of Wyoming residents would take the COVID-19 vaccine. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle and Sheridan Media were among media outlets publishing UW’s release.

The Sheridan Press published UW’s release announcing the Wallop Civic Engagement Program K-12 Curriculum Project. The project focuses on student education and virtual K-12 curriculum as part of its broader statewide community engagement commitment.

Leigh Hall, a UW professor of adolescent literacy, was recently named to EdTech Magazine’s “2020 Dean’s List: 30 Higher Ed IT Influencers Worth a Follow,” according to a UW release published by The Wyoming Tribune Eagle.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle published UW’s release noting that the UW Alumni Association is seeking nominations for the 2022 Distinguished Alumni and Medallion Service awards.
