State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

Bloomberg quoted UW law Professor Michael Duff for an article on Google settling a lawsuit with a software engineer who the U.S. labor board alleged was fired for his workplace activism -- a legally protected right. Duff is a former U.S. National Labor Relations Board attorney. Fortune carried the story.

A study from UW and University of Montana scientists was cited in a Casper Star-Tribune (CS-T) article on how climate change has affected wildfires in Western states. The study determined that the 2020 subalpine fire season in the Rocky Mountains was the region’s worst in 2,000 years. The Cheyenne Post republished the article.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reported that Davin Bagdonas, an associate research scientist in UW’s School of Energy Resources (SER), was among speakers for the Associated Governments of Northwest Colorado 2021 Economic Development Summit. He discussed SER’s two U.S. Department of Energy grants that are exploring nonfuel uses for coal to aid regional economies.

The Greater Yellowstone Climate Assessment indicates that the greater Yellowstone area is expected to become warmer and drier with changing climate, according to an article in The Valley Journal, located in Ronan, Mont. UW scientists contributed to the climate assessment report.

H2 View, a leading global hydrogen publication, reported that representatives of SER and The Williams Cos. recently met to discuss new energy ventures for Wyoming, specifically in hydrogen and carbon capture, as part of a new collaboration to help the state’s energy sector. Oil City News published UW’s announcement.

UW political science Professor Jim King weighed in on the news that former President Donald Trump has endorsed Cheyenne attorney Harriet Hageman to oppose Liz Cheney in the 2022 primary election for U.S. representative. His comments appeared in a Wyoming Tribune Eagle article. King also was quoted in a related CS-T article.

For a second year in a row, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch will not visit UW because of COVID-19 concerns. The Associated Press and U.S. News & World Report were among media outlets that published UW’s release. Gorsuch was scheduled to appear later this week.

Ali Nejadmalayeri, a UW finance professor, was among experts in a Credit Card Insider question-and-answer piece that provided helpful tips to college students on the use of credit cards. The article was part of the organization’s “Best Student Credit Cards” webpage.

The Buffalo Bulletin interviewed Abby Sisneros-Kidd, an assistant professor of outdoor recreation and tourism management at UW, for an article titled “More recreation, more conservation.”

Sheridan Media and Ed Prep Matters published UW’s release noting that the UW College of Education and UW Trustees Education Initiative have partnered with Mursion, a company that develops virtual reality training simulations, to present the inaugural College WYTeach competition.

The Powell Tribune published a couple of UW releases: the latest WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho) Medical Education Program class and local students who attended the annual Summer High School Institute.

UW will host a “The World Needs More Cowboys” celebration at Sheridan’s WYO Performing Arts & Education Center Sept. 14. The Sheridan Press published UW’s announcement on the community event.

WyoToday Media published UW’s release noting that Simone Runyon, an assistant professor, recently received a National Science Foundation grant to investigate critical element distribution in the Rattlesnake Hills Alkaline Complex in central Wyoming.

“The Art of Hybridization” exhibition is on display through Oct. 22 at UW’s Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center, The Laramie Boomerang reported. The exhibition features paintings by Lander artist Rosie Ratigan, who collaborated with Elizabeth Wommack, staff curator of the UW Museum of Vertebrates, and Paul Dougherty, a UW Ph.D. candidate, in depicting three types of hybridization among birds.

The Uinta County Herald reported that John Waggener, a UW American Heritage Center archivist, discussed his book, “Snow Chi Minh Trail: The History of Interstate 80 between Laramie and Walcott Junction,” at the Uinta County Museum’s brown bag lunch last month.

Laramie Live reported that former UW standout quarterback Josh Allen, of the Buffalo Bills, has the top-selling NFL jersey heading into the 2021 season.
