State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

John Koprowski, dean of UW’s Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, was interviewed by Unuudur, a leading Mongolian daily, on his recent visit to the Asian nation. He discussed the long history of conservation in Mongolia and the U.S. He noted that Yellowstone National Park’s 150th anniversary this year is nearly 100 years less than the oldest Mongolian park, Bogd Khan Strictly Protected Area.

UW College of Law Professor Michael Duff commented in a Bloomberg Law article that focused on the National Labor Relations Board general counsel’s push to allow unions to represent workers without a formal vote that is unlikely to eliminate elections.

WalletHub published a question-and-answer column with UW College of Business Professor Emeritus Sherrill Shaffer about free credit cards that offer no annual fees, monthly fees or one-time membership fees.

The UW College of Arts and Sciences recently hosted a symposium to take scholarly opinions and brainstorm a future vision for the college, which will be focused on the arts, humanities and social sciences, The Laramie Boomerang reported. The Gillette News Record and The Sheridan Press published The Boomerang article.

The Casper Star-Tribune interviewed UW economist Rob Godby for an article titled “Russian escalation today could increase future demand for US natural gas.” Godby commented on implications from Russia cutting off natural gas exports to Poland and Bulgaria.

Wyoming Public Radio also interviewed Godby for a piece that focused on how Wyoming businesses are dealing with higher fuel prices and inflation.

The National Tribune, an Australian online news source, carried an article titled “Scientists find elusive gas from post-starburst galaxies hiding in plain sight.” The researchers’ findings were recently published in The Astrophysical Journal. Danny Dale, a professor in the UW Department of Physics and Astronomy, is a co-author of the paper.

Representatives from UW were part of Gov. Mark Gordon’s team of state agencies that helped develop the BOOTS (business occupational outlook tool sets) dashboard, Big Horn Radio Network reported. The recently launched dashboard creates the ability to connect individuals to local education and job opportunities.

UW’s Wild and Working Lands Film Festival was featured in The Laramie Boomerang. UW’s Haub School will host the inaugural film festival May 5 at Laramie’s Gryphon Theatre.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission recently approved an expanded bighorn sheep hunt in the Gros Ventre Mountains near Jackson. The hunt is intended to bring population numbers down and prevent a widespread pneumonia outbreak. The Jackson Hole News & Guide published a Jackson Hole Daily article noting that UW researchers are collaborating on the herd study.

More than 150 Army ROTC cadets from UW and Colorado State University (CSU) recently participated in field training exercises at Camp Guernsey, according to a CSU news release.

The Laramie Boomerang interviewed Anastasiia Pereverten, a Ukrainian exchange student at UW, about what she and other advocates for Ukraine have been doing to educate the Laramie community about the war and the Ukrainian culture.

Sheridan Media published a Cowboy State Daily article, in which Max Gilbraith, the UW planetarium’s coordinator, was quoted about the Super Flower Blood Moon. He said the moon can be seen in full totality about 10:30 p.m. May 15 and will be visible for about 90 minutes. This particular lunar eclipse will be the longest lasting one to occur until at least 2029.

Wyoming News Now published UW’s release announcing three students have been named recipients of UW’s Tobin Memorial and Rosemarie Martha Spitaleri Outstanding Undergraduate Award. Wendy Luna Garcia, of Wheatland; Hannah Rhymes, from Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Connor Rindler, of Laramie, were recognized for exhibiting the finest leadership, academic integrity and citizenship qualities.

The Laramie Boomerang published UW’s release announcing that six finalists will share $63,000 in prize money after being named winners of the John P. Ellbogen Entrepreneurship Competition.

UW is one of 73 institutions of higher education chosen by the U.S. Department of Education to participate in the Second Chance Pell Experimental Sites Initiative. Wyoming News Now published UW’s release announcing that Wyoming Pathways from Prison, UW’s prison education initiative, has been selected to participate in the program, which will help incarcerated students in Wyoming earn college degrees.

Wyoming News Now published UW’s release announcing the UW Biodiversity Institute’s Bee Jubilee. The educational event, which took place May 1, included a film screening of “My Garden of a Thousand Bees” and various learning stations. KGAB Radio carried a similar release.
