    UW in the News

    June 6, 2022

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

Forbes included UW economist Charles Mason’s comments in an article on the latest South Korean conglomerate to expand into nuclear power as a means to reduce carbon emissions.

UW law Professor Michael Duff was interviewed by Bloomberg Law for an article focusing on National Labor Relations Board judges who will hold the first set of hearings this month on alleged unfair labor practices as Starbucks workers attempt to unionize.

The Laramie Boomerang interviewed UW economist Anne Alexander, who said high fuel prices are not only affecting everyday consumers, but also the cost of goods that are delivered on trucks, which is having a widespread impact. The Casper Star-Tribune (CS-T) also interviewed UW economist Rob Godby for a similar article.

UW’s Wyoming Teacher-Mentor Corps was mentioned in a CS-T article that focused on experts and lawmakers discussing how to fix teacher recruitment and retention as the state faces teacher shortages.

The Boomerang noted that UW, Laramie and the state are putting more of a focus on some of the newest areas of technology that some hope will become a major economic stimulator for the Cowboy State: blockchain and cryptocurrency.

John Stark, the incoming UW Foundation CEO/president, was featured in his hometown newspaper, The Jackson Hole News & Guide.

Sheridan Media printed UW’s release noting that new research -- featuring UW’s Lisa Barrett and Jessica Marsh -- was published in the Royal Society Open Science journal. The study demonstrates that zebra finches have personalities, and some traits are consistent over two years of the birds’ lives.

Cynthia Brock, the Wyoming Excellence Chair in the UW School of Teacher Education, was among researchers who produced a case study of pre-service teachers’ experiences in remote Australian Indigenous education. The Educator Australia published the article.

Wyoming News Now reported that Central Wyoming College’s Alpine Science Institute and UW are collaborating on the Wyoming Anticipating Climate Transitions project to deal with the impacts of climate change.

Wyoming History Day, an affiliate of National History Day and administered by UW’s American Heritage Center, returned recently with an in-person competition. County 10 published UW’s release announcing the student winners.

The CS-T published UW’s release noting that a team of UW researchers will travel to Kemmerer and Diamondville later this month to document residents’ lived experiences and to discuss the impact of a planned new sodium-cooled nuclear reactor at the Naughton Power Plant outside of Kemmerer.
