UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

The Casper Star-Tribune (CS-T) reported that UW will receive an $800,000 U.S. Department of Energy grant for a research project that looks at how nuclear energy technology siting impacts communities and the environment. A nuclear facility is slated to be built near Kemmerer. The Laramie Boomerang published a similar article.

UW Professor Christine Porter, the Wyoming Excellence Chair in Community and Public Health, was among Wyoming residents who commented in a CS-T article focusing on the U.S. Supreme Court overturning the constitutional protections for abortion rights under Roe v. Wade. Jacquelyn Bridgeman, a law professor and director of UW’s School of Culture, Gender and Social Justice, was interviewed for a related CS-T piece.

Harvard Business Review published a column titled “Monitoring Employees Makes Them More Likely to Break Rules.” Chase Thiel, the UW Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Program Professor of Business Ethics, was one of the column’s co-authors.

In a news segment about how the Sheridan Veterans Affairs Medical Center is changing some of its treatment practices because of a lack of health care staff, Wyoming Public Radio noted that the facility is looking to recruit more graduates of UW’s School of Nursing and graduates of the state’s community college nursing programs.

The Laramie Boomerang covered last week’s Mountain West Innovation Summit on the UW campus. Specialists in areas including energy, digital technology and scientific research presented their views on how the region can become a leader in economic and technological development.

UW Extension is offering a Beef Quality Assurance and Beef Management Workshop next week at the Sheridan Extension office. The Sheridan Press noted that the workshop will be led by UW Extension Educator Alex Orozco-Lopez.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported that Black Hills Energy announced that a crypto mining company recently entered into a five-year service agreement in Cheyenne. Steve Lupien, director of UW’s Center for Blockchain and Digital Innovation, was mentioned in the article.

The Wyoming Center on Aging at UW has established the Healthier Wyoming initiative, which has a goal to empower all Wyoming residents to take charge of their health through various resources. Wyoming News Now published UW’s release.

Sheridan Media, WyoToday Media and County 10 published UW’s release noting that incoming juniors from around the state have been selected for the 38th annual Summer High School Institute next month on the UW campus.

Max Gilbraith, UW’s Harry C. Vaughn Planetarium coordinator, spoke with Cowboy State Daily about Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn aligning last week, a rare occurrence that happens only once every 18 years.
