Graduate Admissions Process Overview

Admission to graduate programs at the University of Wyoming is competitive. Each program has its own admission requirements, application processes and deadlines. As such, you MUST contact your graduate program directly to inquire about their specific requirements and processes. Some programs admit new graduate students to start in the Fall semester only.

Generally speaking, each graduate program follows one of two processes:

  • Many programs ask prospective graduate students to submit materials and information directly to the program so that they may screen your qualifications as a master's or doctoral candidate before having you make a formal application for admission. They will then invite qualified candidates to make a formal application.

  • Other programs ask that you make a formal application to UW and supply application material directly to the Admissions Office, at which point they will receive your information and make an admission decision.

Students will then be notified.

Students not admitted, or not wishing to pursue immediate admission to a graduate program may choose to pursue graduate coursework as a "non-degree seeking" graduate student. Check with Admissions to learn more about the limitations of this option.
