501(c)(3): A tax-exempt nonprofit organization.

Annual giving: Offering giving opportunities for direct support of UW's colleges, departments and programs, UW Annual Giving focuses on acquiring regular yearly contributions, thus creating a vital and dependable source of private support.

Charitable bequest: The act of giving cash or property by will or revocable living trust to or for the benefit of a charitable organization.

Charitable gift annuity: A gift arrangement whereby the donor transfers cash, securities, real estate or other property to UW in exchange for fixed annuity payments for life.

Charitable remainder trust: An irrevocable trust funded with stock, real estate or cash in exchange for a fixed or variable income for life, or for a term of up to 20 years, with the remaining trust assets at the end of the trust term passing to the specific college or program you designate at UW.

Charitable gift: A gift of cash, real estate, securities, other assets or services made by an individual or organization to a nonprofit organization for a charitable purpose.

Corporate and foundation giving: The support of corporations and foundations can assist in a wide variety of areas, leading to strategic partnerships with corporations and linking UW and foundations resulting in benefit for our UW administration, faculty and students.

Corporate matching: Many companies have programs through which they will match the charitable contributions made by their employees.

Cowboy Call: The student voice of UW, which plays a vital role in reconnecting, establishing and maintaining relationships with alumni, parents and friends who generously support UW through annual giving.

Donor Bill of Rights: 10 rights of donors to assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public.

Endowment: A gift held in perpetuity and invested by the foundation, the principal of which remains intact while a percentage of the earned income is used to support the area or program designated by the donor; the total value of an institution's investments is often referred to as the institution's endowment.

Foundation Resource Center: A UW resource for faculty and staff members for researching and approaching private foundations for funding, in addition to providing guidance in grant writing and following reporting requirements of foundation funders.

Legacy Society: The UW gift society established in 1991 to recognize and thank the many alumni and friends who have made an estate commitment or deferred gift arrangement for the benefit of UW.

Naming opportunities: The opportunity to name a program, space or facility through a gift, which allows UW to thank and recognize donors.

Online giving: A quick, easy and secure way to make a gift to UW online (uwyo.edu/giveonline).
