UW HOCKEY CLUB SPLITS THE WEEKEND
December 11, 2012 -- The University of Wyoming hockey club split the weekend to the
No. 4 team in the Pacific Regeion.
The Cowboys shared a home and home series with the University of Northern Colorado
this past weekend. Friday night's game was held in Greeley, Colo. ending in a 3-2
loss to the Pokes. The Cowboys brought the fight back to Laramie for Saturday night's
game winning in a 3-0 shut-out.
Cowboys goaltender, Jordan Grove (Pinedale, Wyo.) for Friday night's game took on
33 shots, only allowing 3 goals. The UNC Bears had a 2-0 lead early in the 1st period,
but Cowboys forward Cody Quintal (Cheyenne, Wyo.) answered with 8 seconds left in
the period to make it 2-1 going into the 2nd period. The Cowboys held the Bears to
only one goal in the 2nd period now making it a two goal game. Ethan Crockett (Cheyenne,
Wyo.) provided the Pokes with a spark by scoring in the first minutes of the 3rd
period, which led to an exciting, action-filled period. The Cowboys outworked the
Bears the entire period but failed to put another puck in the net ending in the loss.
The Cowboys came back to Laramie for Saturday night's game, seeking a victory in
their own barn. The 1st period was a hard fought defensive battle which ended scoreless,
but 30 seconds into the 2nd period defenseman Patrick Ramsey (Houston, Texas) gave
the Pokes a 1-0 lead. Noah Crank (Cheyenne, Wyo.) netted a pair of goals for UW,
one in the 2nd and one in the 3rd period which ended the game 3-0. Goaltender Jordan
Grove had a phenomenal game once again facing 30 shots and having a perfect save
percentage to seal the shutout.
The Cowboys (10-6) return to the ice Dec. 14 & Dec. 15 with two exhibition games
against the Cheyenne Stampede, part of the Western States Hockey League, in a home
and home weekend. Friday night's game will be held in Laramie, Wyo. at 8:00pm and
Saturday night in Cheyenne, Wyo. at 7:35pm.
