ACCESS Employment

As of August 31, 2019, the ACCESS Employment program activities through the Wyoming Institute for Disabilities will no longer be available due to funding limitations at the state agency level.

If you have questions or concerns regarding the continued availability of Pre-Employment Transition Services in Wyoming, please contact Jim McIntosh or Nicki Harper at the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services Division of Vocational Rehabilitation at (307) 777-7386.

Thank you to everyone who participated in ACCESS Employment. The following services will still be available through the Wyoming Institute for Disabilities:

Employers:

WIND will continue to partner with businesses and public and private employers throughout the state to provide onsite training and technical assistance on disability inclusion, employment, workplace accessibility, and creating work opportunities for Wyoming youth. There will be a small fee for these services.

WIND’s qualified staff can assist you in:

  • Developing and implementing mentorships, internships, summer employment opportunities, or other programs for qualified young adults with disabilities to grow your own talent pipeline.

  • Evaluating what aspects of your business or organization are accessible/inaccessible to potential or existing employees with disabilities including policies, recruitment and hiring practices, career development and retention, and other employee programs.

  • Accessing local recruitment resources and building partnerships with community service providers.

  • Identifying local and/or national resources for disability accommodations and ADA/504 compliance.

  • Connecting with other employers and organizations throughout the state who are also seeking the potential of providing opportunities for young employees with disabilities and working to build and maintain inclusive workplaces.

  • Assistive technology (AT) assessments through the Wyoming Assistive Technology Resource (WATR). An AT assessment is a collaborative process through which a support team works together to identify technologies that can improve a person’s performance, access, participation, and independents.  An AT assessment is an ongoing process, not a one-time event, designed to match individuals with assistive technology, as well as implement and measure the most effective solutions for career success.

Benefits:

According to a recent study of 140 U.S. Companies by Accenture alongside the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and Disability: IN- those that offered the most inclusive working environment for employees with disabilities achieved an average of 28% higher revenue, 30% greater economic profit margins and twice the net income of their industry peers between 2015 and 2018.

Furthermore, companies that were rated as “disability inclusion champions” were twice as likely to have a higher shareholder return as their peer group.

Additionally, the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a Federal tax credit available to employers for hiring individuals referred by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), an agency that works to support people with disabilities in finding employment.

For more information, contact Janean Forsyth-Lefevre at jforsyth@uwyo.edu or call 307-766-2938.

Virtual Job Shadow Participants:

Virtual Job Shadow licenses and accounts will remain available to use through December 31, 2019. Additionally, all of our published training guides and collaborative sessions and materials will still be available on the WyoLearn platform.  However, individualized technical assistance through WIND will end on August 31, 2019

We will be able to answer simple account-related questions after August 31, but broader technical questions that cannot be resolved through our training materials will need to be addressed by Virtual Job Shadow.
