The following INBRE undergraduate assistantships are open to any University of Wyoming (Laramie campus) SOPHOMORE, JUNIOR or SENIOR student interested in biomedical research.

This summer we are offering UW INBRE assistantships to rising junior and senior STEM majors in Honors/Secondary Education. The Idea Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) program is funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH). Each Fall, Spring, and Summer semester, the Wyoming INBRE program funds about 10 UW undergraduates wishing to engage in biomedical research. Research hours must be completed during the award period.

Assistantship applicants must all submit research proposals that deal exclusively with biomedically related questions and experimental research that seek to improve human health.

  • FALL 2020 Assistantship: $960 (80 hours at $12/hour) - additional competition opens this summer, applications/letters will be due mid-September
  • SPRING 2021 Assistantship: $960 (80 hours at $12/hour)
  • Combined Fall-Spring Assistantship: $1920 (160 hours at $12/hour) - additional competition opens this summer, applications/letters will be due mid-September
  • SUMMER Assistantship for 2020 will be $5400 (450 hours at $12/hour) - cancelled - READ Notice below.

SUBMIT an assistantship application and faculty letters for UW students:

  1. FIRST, open and read the INBRE undergraduate assistantship APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS. This guides you on what to include in your resume, abstract/project summary, and research proposal.  Because of the COVID-19 situation, proposals are now due TUESDAY APRIL 7, 2020 no later than 5 p.m. MST. 
    NOTICE: With the uncertainty created by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are sorry to announce the cancellation of our WY INBRE Summer 2020 Undergraduate Research Program. In the event that campus reopens this summer, our faculty and graduate student mentors will be busy catching up and restarting their own research.
    If you are in the process of applying, we are still accepting applications and faculty letters until 5pm Tuesday April 7th. We will review these applications after April 7th and announce awards after April 14th. These awards may be used for Fall 2020 and/or Spring 2021 and will be $960 per semester (80 hours @ $12/hr). If you opt to withdraw from this application round, please inform your faculty advisor and those submitting letters of recommendation. If you withdraw you can apply in our Fall 2020 competition when we will be making additional awards. Another competition will open this summer for applications/letters due mid-September for additional Fall and Fall/Spring awards.

  2. Complete the assistantship application here: UW INBRE UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP APPLICATION.  Upload required pdf documents on the form: Résumé, Academic Transcripts, Abstract/Project Summary and Research Proposal. Please label all files with your name!
  3. Complete the separate online application for an INBRE assistantship for Secondary Education/Honors students in STEM majors here.
  4. Request your letters from faculty early(!). SUBMIT FACULTY LETTERS ONLINE HERE.
Letter of Commitment from your research mentor- This letter should detail the mentor's willingness to supervise the research, describe the expected learning experiences, and describe any funds/facilities available to support the student’s research.
Two letters of Recommendation from UW and/or Wyoming Community College faculty.
