Animal Science Projects

    Beef Cattle


    The 4-H beef project allows you to learn about breeds, selection, grooming, production, management, showmanship, marketing and careers through a breeding or market animal.

    The 4-H cat project helps you explore what kind of cat fits into your family’s lifestyle. Cats need your love and guidance to live long and healthy lives. The project will help you learn about nutritional aspects of a cat’s diet, health needs and practicing responsible ownership.

    Dogs


    4-H Dog project members will have fun while learning more about dogs, pet citizenship, feeding, grooming, dog trials, breeds and their importance, over population, sharing a dog with others, health, dog language, community laws and careers.

    Meat Goats


    The 4-H meat goat project allows you to learn about breeds, selection, grooming, production, management, showmanship, marketing and careers through a breeding or market animal.

    Horses


    The 4-H horse project teaches management, techniques related to nutrition, health, first aid, teeth and aging, in addition to horsemanship, fitting, showing, caring for tack and equipment, horse demonstrations and judging.

    Llamas & Alpacas


    In the Llamas and Alpacas project 4-H members learn recommended finishing rations, how to give proper care to animals, and how to use good management procedures.

    Pocket Pets


    The Pocket Pet project is for members interested in any pet – frogs, fish, ants, guinea pigs, etc. Pet selection, identification of breeds, parts of the animal, handling, housing, daily needs and health problems are taught.

    All poultry projects give members training in the best recommended practices of hatching, brooding, and rearing poultry, marketing, dressing, breeds, egg production, breeding flock, fitting and showing, judging and demonstrations.

    In the Rabbit Project members will decide whether they want to raise rabbits for meat, fur, wool, laboratory use, or showing, and select the best breed for the purpose.
