New Reading Room Procedures

  • An archivist will open the locked reading room door on the 4th floor for you no sooner than 5 minutes before your designated appointment time.

  • You will be assigned a research table and a space to store personal items.

  • Seating is limited due to social distancing guidelines.

  • We have a total of eight research tables.

  • All requested materials will be pre-pulled.

  • No pull on-demand options are available, however, materials can be requested for a subsequent on-site visit.

  • For additional research guidance, to view the AHC collections’ online guides and to identify material please visit this link:

  • All regular Reading Room rules and restrictions still apply.

Here’s how we are keeping you and ourselves safe

  • We are frequently sanitizing tables, copiers/scanners, chair arms and all other high-touch surfaces.

  • Disinfecting wipes are out and available for researchers to use to sanitize their own spaces if they would feel more comfortable to do so themselves.

  • Disposable gloves are available.

  • The main reading room has restrooms available for handwashing, with additional restrooms accessible on the main/2nd floor.

  • We are limiting seating to one patron per research table, and assigning table location based on needs (ie. planned use of the shared copier/scanner).

  • A green COVID pass is required for entry.

  • Masks and social distancing are required at all times.

  • We will be wearing masks as well.

What will we be expecting of you during your AHC onsite research?

  • If you are not feeling well, or suspect that you may have been exposed, please stay home.

  • We will be happy to reschedule your research appointment when you are feeling better.

  • Social distancing and masks are required at all times.

  • Make sure you have a daily Covid Pass from UW for each day of research. Please stay home if you are sick.

  • Bring your own pencil/paper.

  • You may want to bring your own camera or take notes to prevent sharing the copier/scanner. The reading room has one shared copier for patron use.

  • Arrive on the 4th floor no more than five minutes before your appointment. An archivist will open the reading room door for you.

  • A research table and storage cubby for your belongings will be assigned to you.
