Archival Material Use Fees

Publishing or distributing work that makes use of AHC archival material is often attended by certain fees, found below. Please note that payment of commercial use fees does not grant copyright or licensing to reproduced materials. Copyright guidelines can be found on the AHC's Copyright Information page.

Non-Profit Use

Includes use of materials that falls reasonably under fair use guidelines (Section 107) of U.S. Copyright Law, including use for non-profit teaching, scholarship, or academic research or for non-profit print, display, or exhibition use. There is no charge for static images or audiovisual materials used in this manner.

For-Profit use

Includes use of materials for commercial, for-profit ventures, including use for commercial publications, films, internet-streamed content, or the production of memorabilia.

Images

educational, scholarly, or academic publications

  • Less than 5,000 copies: $10 per image
  • 5,000–10,000 copies: $15 per image
  • 10,001–25,000 copies: $35 per image
  • More than 25,000 copies: $50 per image

T-shirts, posters, postcards, greeting cards, calendars, and other products

  • $175 per image

books and eBooks

  • Less than 5,000 copies: $15 per image
  • 5,000–10,000 copies: $50 per image
  • 10,001–25,000 copies: $75 per image
  • More than 25,000 copies: $100 per image

magazines and serials

  • Circulation of 1–49,000: $40 per image
  • Circulation of 50,000–99,999: $75 per image
  • Circulation of more than 100,000: $100 per image

motion pictures and television

  • Use in motion pictures or television: $100 per image
  • Use for advertising: $150 per image
  • Display at a commercial establishment: $35 per image

Audiovisual Materials

  • Use for educational, theatrical, television broadcast, or internet-streamed content: $50 per 30 seconds of run time
  • Use for production of motion pictures or television: $250 per 30 seconds of run time
  • Use for advertising: $300 per 30 seconds of run time
