The American Angus Association is the nation’s largest beef breed registry with nearly 25,000 adult and junior members. The individual will be responsible for actively working with the team to identify important livestock industry issues, formulate learning objectives, develop educational events and materials to support these objectives and participate in evaluations to measure the team’s educational impact.

The Forestry Technician’s duties at Salmon Valley Stewardship will primarily focus
on conducting
timber cruises, plant identification, and collection of fire fuel data near Salmon,
Idaho. The majority
of the technicians time will be spent in the field performing surveys to determine
stand conditions,
identifying timber types, ground vegetation, insect and disease damage. Other time
will be spent
entering and checking data, identifying plants, or helping with other SVS natural
resource program
activities.

The Botanist/Resource Technician’s duties at Salmon Valley Stewardship will primarily
focus on plant
identification and the collection of riparian and sagebrush steppe vegetation data
in the Lemhi Valley,
located in a remote and botanically rich region in Idaho. The Botanist’s field time
will focus on
collecting BLM Assessment, Inventory and Monitoring (AIM) program soils and vegetation
data using
AIM protocols and also conducting Multiple Indicator Monitoring of streamside channels
and
vegetation.

This is a permanent federal position with promotion potential to GS-9. Depending upon qualifications, the starting pay ranges from $39,000 to $56,000. The position requires skill in livestock (sheep) husbandry, managing animals in a research environment, collection and management of phenotypic data, and some lab work (specs mainly). Although not required, a B.S. or M.S. in genetics, animal science, biochemistry, or biology is helpful.
