Graduate Program
The graduate program in the Animal Science Department at UW is diverse. Faculty graduate
advisors are working with students in many disciplines including animal genetics,
beef cattle management, sheep production management, reproductive biology, animal
nutrition, muscle biology and food safety. Graduate students, both those pursuing
a Master’s degree or a doctoral degree, are scientifically trained in their field
of interest to best develop skills that will assist them in their future career endeavors.
Scientific laboratories, animal working facilities, and production facilities, such
as the UW Meat Lab, allow students and faculty researchers access to advanced resources
when conducting cutting edge research.
The Department of Animal Science grants MS and PhD in Animal and Veterinary Science:
Thesis MS (26 hours coursework + 4 thesis credits), Plan B MS (32 hours coursework),
PhD (72 hours degree program).

Therefore, prior to applying to graduate school, applicants should:
- Review research areas within the Department
- Identify research area(s) of interest
