William A. Clevenger, a native of Sunrise, Wyoming, earned his B.S.C.E. in 1943, prior to serving in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. After 10 years with the Bureau of Reclamation, he joined Woodward-Clyde Consultants. He later became Chairman of the Board of the firm, one of the largest consulting engineering firms in the United States. Mr. Clevenger is internationally known for his work in geotechnics, particularly on earth and rock fill dams.
During his distinguished career, he served as a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a member of the United States National Committee of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage, and provided leadership in major professional organizations, including service as President of the American Consulting Engineers Council.
