Tamara “Tammy” Johnson is a native of Wyoming, graduating from Sheridan High School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in architectural engineering from the University of Wyoming in 1991, and an Executive MBA from the University of Denver.
Johnson is currently an employee of Merrick and Company, an engineering, architecture, surveying, and geospatial firm, headquartered in Greenwood Village, Colorado. She is the Senior Vice President and Business Unit leader for the High-Performance Facilities Team, which delivers projects in the federal market, primarily in military construction and aerospace projects. Johnson also serves on Merrick’s Board of Directors.
In April 2023, Johnson will become the sixth President in the firm’s history. Johnson began her career at Merrick as a structural design engineer. During her time as a design engineer, she demonstrated her ability for communicating with clients and leading teams of engineers. She soon became a project manager. She served as the account manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where she managed the Air Force’s large replacement program for the Basic Military Training Squadron.
Johnson then spent six years as the office manager for Merrick’s San Antonio office, serving as the integrator that opened the office, establishing a company presence in the area. Johnson’s architectural engineering teams have provided multiple national American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and Engineering News Record (ENR) award winning designs.
Her projects include Antarctica scientific laboratories, highly sustainable national security facilities, to NASA’s Space Launch System testing facilities, which are powering the current Artemis 1 mission to the moon and back.
Her “influence and leadership are impacting cutting-edge scientific and engineering achievements on all seven continents and beyond.”
Johnson is also an integral part of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and the Merrick Professional Women’s Roundtable where she serves as an advisor, mentor, keynote speaker and external champion and advocate for the fundamental mission of each organization. Johnson has demonstrated continual growth in engineering, management, and executive capabilities throughout her career.
