    Andy Krieger

COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND PHYSICAL SCIENCES

2024 CEPS HALL OF FAME AWARD

After graduating from the University of
Wyoming in 1996 with a master’s degree in
petroleum engineering, Andy Krieger and his
soon-to-be wife Kim (also a UW grad) both
took jobs with bp in Alaska. This first job out of
college – as an interventions engineer in
Anchorage – would turn into a successful career
    28 years and counting.

Krieger grew up in and around the oilfield but
an opportunity to work in Alaska proved to be
just what he needed to open his eyes to the possibilities. What started in the office writing procedures soon turned into working rotations and experiencing firsthand what it was like to be out on the frontline. And that continues to be the reason why he chose to grow his career at bp.

After that five-year stint in Alaska, he had the opportunity to take a position in drilling with bp in Trinidad and Tobago, where they lived for four years. Eventually the Kriegers moved to Houston, the site of bp’s US headquarters, where the couple raised their two daughters and built their
    careers.

Krieger’s career grew as he served as Senior Vice President for bp’s global wells organization for six years leading the organization through a significant safety improvement journey implementing learnings from the
    Deepwater Horizon incident.

Today, he is the Senior Vice President for bp’s Gulf of Mexico and Canada region, one of the largest deep-water production businesses in the world. The region is an important part of bp’s hydrocarbons business, which is a key pillar in the company’s global production and operations.

Although their home is now in Houston, Andy and Kim maintain close ties to the university – hosting UW students in Houston. They even kick-started the Krieger Family K-12 Engineering Outreach Fund, which showcases the university to young prospective students.

Krieger’s commitment to education and community goes even further. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Energy Education Foundation, is a member of the University of Houston Energy Advisory Board, and he is a member of the Greater Houston Partnership Board. He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of bp Exploration & Production and is a member of the bp America Board of Directors. He is also on the American Petroleum Institute (API) Upstream Committee and on the executive committee of the National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA).

When he’s not working, Krieger enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. He also has a private pilot’s license and enjoys the focus, intensity, and solace of flying.
