    Kim Krieger

COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND PHYSICAL SCIENCES

2024 CEPS HALL OF FAME AWARD

When Kim Krieger tells her career story she often
begins where you would least expect it - on family road trips through her home state of Wyoming. As a child looking out the window of her parents’ car, she excitedly spotted the “up and downs.” Those glimpses of pumpjacks matured into visions of delivering energy and improving lives, which she now acts on as an energy industry leader and Midstream Vice President for bpx energy.

A 1996 graduate of the University of Wyoming, the school’s impact on her career path began long before her move to Laramie to earn her Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering. Krieger credits her interest in engineering to her high school math teacher, who encouraged her to attend UW’s Summer Engineering Camp in 1991. After visiting a pumpjack at camp, she knew pursuing petroleum engineering would set her on a path of adventure and challenge with endless opportunities.

While attending UW, Krieger also met her husband, and fellow industry leader, Andy. They were married after graduation in 1996 and kick started their adventures in energy and life by accepting roles with bp in Alaska. 28 years and three moves later, the couple have crafted work life harmony by balancing their advancing careers at bp with their equally important roles of Mom and Dad to Kaitlyn (20) and Madison (18).

After five years in Alaska, Krieger continued creating value for bp through engineering, operational, and leadership roles in Trinidad and Tobago, the Gulf of Mexico, and now in the US onshore with bpx energy. In her current role as Vice President of Midstream, Krieger is accountable for the safe and sustainable gathering and processing of over350,000 bpd equivalent production and over $1bn in new infrastructure investment. As a part of the bpx executive team, Krieger is delivering on a shared vision to disrupt U.S. Onshore Operations with rapid innovation and game changing technologies.

A 2017 graduate of the Stanford Graduate School of Business’s Executive Program, Krieger values innovation and lifelong learning to remain on the leading edge. Her goal is to inspire a diverse talent pipeline into the industry while creating an inclusive, high performing organization where everyone adds value.

Krieger believes each of her roles have shaped her into the leader she is today, which fuels her passion for DE&I and fostering the next generation through mentorship and being an agent for change. She fosters this by serving on the executive committee and board of directors for the Texas Oil & Gas Association, as a trustee at Houston Christian High School, and as a trusted advisor to the bpx Women’s Industry Network, bp Indigenous Business Resource Group, and Flipping the Barrel.

As a family, the Krieger’s maintain ties to Wyoming through a variety of personal and philanthropic means, including the Krieger Family K-12 Engineering Outreach Fund at UW. In 2018, the National Association of Manufacturers recognized Kim with the Step Ahead Award for her focus on educating K-12 students on STEM careers.
