William A. Heink spent his career in the aerospace industry, starting with the Atlas and Centaur programs after graduation from the university. He joined Boeing at Cape Canaveral in 1965 where he was on the Saturn Launch Team for all the Apollo missions. After Apollo, he worked in the field on the Minuteman Weapons System, then returned to Florida and the Space Shuttle program in 1977 with Rockwell, which would later merge with Boeing.
After moving through a series of increasingly significant Shuttle engineering management positions, he became Director of Rockwell's Orbiter Engineering in 1995 and was appointed Florida Site Director for Boeing Reusable Space Systems in 1998. A native of California, Mr. Heink also provided leadership to the National Management Association, was elected National Chairman in 1995, and is a Life Member of their Board of Directors.
