B.S.E.E. 1962 - M.S. 1963
Kenneth G. Wolf has distinguished himself and the University of Wyoming College of Engineering through his leadership in the development of the semiconductor business in the United States and internationally. As one nominator stated, "Ken displayed great foresight when he convinced Motorola to start up and fund an ASIC business. This was before the term ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) was commonplace and before this now multi-billion dollar industry existed. It is this type of insight that required both technical and business acumen that distinguishes Ken."
Wolf began his career as a design engineer with Motorola in 1965 and rose through several engineering, manufacturing, and management positions, eventually becoming Corporate Vice President and General Manager of the Linear Products Division and later Corporate Vice President and General Manager of the ASIC Division. This led to his starting his own company, Synergy Semiconductor, which was purchased five years later by MICREL. In the early 1990's Wolf served briefly as President, CEO and Director of Performance Semiconductors, before becoming Vice President, Business Logic Unit and Vice President, Mass Storage for National Semiconductor. He was responsible for a successful $400 million business unit that eventually became Fairchild Semiconductor. From 1997 to 2001 Wolf served as the Executive Vice President of World Wide Operations for Burr-Brown Corporation. He managed all aspects of a wafer manufacturing business that employed over 1000 people, including developing world wide manufacturing and testing operations. Texas Instruments purchased Burr-Brown in 2000 and after managing the transition, Wolf retired in 2001.
