The concept of small teaching is simple: small and strategic changes have enormous power to improve student learning. Instructors face unique and specific challenges when teaching an online course. This learning community will focus on the book "Small Teaching Online: by Flower Darby with James Lang, which offers small teaching strategies that will positively impact the online classroom.
In the Fall, we will discuss the book. In the Spring, we will discuss application of the strategies described in the book, share findings, and demonstrate changes in our teaching based on the readings. Applications are due by September 3rd, 2024.
When: Mondays 11am - 12pm
Fall: 9/9, 9/30, 10/14, 10/28, 11/18
Spring: 2/3, 2/24, 3/10, 4/7, 4/21
Digital teaching and learning encompasses instructional practices that effectively use technology to strengthen teaching and learning experiences through best practices in pedagogy and andragogy. Digital teaching and learning can incorporate many different techniques, tools, digital content and resources, and applications to support and empower teachers and students, in all educational environments including online, hybrid, and face-to-face. Digital teaching and learning increases equity and access to educational opportunities as well as providing instructors with the knowledge and tools to teach inclusively.
This course is designed to be asynchronous and self-paced to model and engage you in best practices for digital teaching and learning as you work through designing or redesigning your own course. Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a Digital Teaching and Learning Badge. You are also welcome to just browse for what you'd like and come back as needed!
