Our Teacher Education Program is one of the premier teacher preparation programs in the United States. The National Education Association (NEA) previously selected UW as a model for teacher education programs across the country. UW was one of the original teacher preparation programs nationally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) in 1954 and has maintained continuous NCATE accreditation for over 60 years. We are vested in preparations for our continued journey of accreditation through the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP).

Our primary objective is to prepare effective and successful elementary and secondary teachers who make valuable contributions to their schools, communities, and to their students’ lives. Here you will find information and forms including background checks and exception requests as well as the student teaching application! For more information on when you will need to apply for these, speak with your advisor.
