Hippiscus ocelote (Saussure)
Hippiscus ocelote, the wrinkled grasshopper, is occasionally collected in eastern Wyoming. It is a
common grasshopper in Nebraska. It prefers grassy areas in open woodlands. Eggs overwinter
in the soil and hatch in early summer. Adults are present in August and September.
The species is a mixed feeder but it prefers grasses. Its uncommon occurrence prevents
it from being a pest in Wyoming.
