What is Fall Bridge?

Fall Bridge is a learning community for first-year students. As a participant in Fall Bridge, you will be enrolled in a human culture (H) class that, in addition to being slightly smaller than other H-courses, focuses on critical thinking skills and college success skills, offers frequent access to an academic advisor, and a peer mentor who can answer many of your questions from a student's perspective. You may also decide to take your freshman composition course (ENGL 1010) with Fall Bridge. This course is also slightly smaller than other sections of ENGL 1010, is taught by English faculty members, gives you the opportunity to have more one-on-one support with your writing, and includes a peer writing tutor.

    Core 

    • Fall Semester, take your Human Culture course (STEP 1000) and your Communication 1 course (ENGL 1010) 
    • Spring Semester (optional) Communication 2 course (ENGL 2015)
    • Satisfies three University Studies Program (USP, general education) requirements
    • Highlights critical thinking and research
    • Features stronger networking among faculty and students, and emphasizes transition to college academics

Features of Fall Bridge

Smaller class sizes.  The Fall Bridge classes have a maximum enrollment of 18 students. This means students can get more one-on-one attention from instructors as well as allow students to know every other student in their class.

Dedicated instructors.  The Fall Bridge Program hand-picks instructors who have received awards and/or recognition for excellence in, and dedication to teaching first-year students. Many of our instructors have won multiple teaching awards.

Peer mentors.  Each Fall Bridge first-year seminar course has a peer mentor that attends the class. Most of the peer mentors are students who were part of Fall Bridge their freshman year and understand the challenges that students can face during their first semester in college. The peer mentors are here to offer guidance and advice as well as help freshman students find resources on campus.

Academic advisors.  The Fall Bridge Program partners with the ACES office to offer high quality, professional advising during the freshman year. These academic advisors can help answer questions about classes, selecting a major, as well as help students navigate the WyoWeb online registration system.

Enrollment in a high demand class. The classes in the Fall Bridge Program, human culture (H) and College Composition (ENGL 1010) fulfill University Studies Program components and are required of every student at the University of Wyoming. Students in the Fall Bridge Program select and are enrolled in their H-course (and ENGL 1010, if two-course option is selected) earlier than most students, thus securing their spot in popular classes.
