First Gen Scholars

What is the First Gen Scholars Program?

First Gen Scholars is a peer mentoring program designed to help first-year students connect to the resources, activities, and programs available at the University of Wyoming.

Who can participate?

Any first-year, first-generation student is welcome to join First Gen Scholars.  

Who are the Peer Mentors?

The Peer Mentors are sophomore and older first-generation students who want to help first-year students navigate their first semester at UW. Student meet 1-2 times per month with their mentor in order to ask questions, get connected to campus resources, and build a sense of community.

What are the advantages to participating in First Gen Scholars?

  • Meet people
  • Make connections to other first generation students as well as faculty who were first generation students
  • Discover activities, organizations, and clubs to join on campus
