    Campus Engagement for First-Generation Students

    Welcome to the University of Wyoming.  On campus there are many ways for you to become involved - clubs and organizations, volunteer opportunities, student government, intramural sports, attending campus events, and so much more!  We encourage you to seek-out opportunities for engagement on campus - in your new environment you will want to seek-out supports and opportunities to enrich you campus experience, support your educational goals and help you to feel part of the overall campus community.

    Below is a list of resources to support your campus engagement - there are many options for engaging on campus and we wish you luck on your journey!

    Advocates for Achievement (AFA) - a recognized student organization (RSO) for Student Success Services, GEAR UP and McNair Scholars students. AFA serves as a meeting place for students in these programs to connect with other TRiO students and the campus community. Check out their AFA facebook page for updated event information and meeting times!

    Service|Leadership|Community Engagement (SLCE) - Start Here!  Service-learning, civic engagement, alternative breaks, LGBTQ leadership, student resources, social justice activism (The Good Mule Project), and much more.  Not sure where to start? Scroll to the bottom of the page and sign up for their mailing list - this way the opportunities will be emailed to you directly and you can pick!

    Recognized Student Organization (RSO) - organizations run by students, for students! RSO's include clubs, religious affiliations, organizations, and more all run by students. Not sure which one is the right choice? Attend a RSO Club and Organizations Fair at the beginning of each semester to learn more.  

    Campus Activities Center (CAC) - consider the CAC as a one-stop-shop for all things campus engagement - you can connect to so many opportunities by visiting the CAC webpage and participating in campus events. Check out their Upcoming Events for an easy-to-access overview of things happening on campus. CAC can also help you to navigate the process of identifying an RSO that is best suited for you!

    Pokes Pub and Game Room  - Check out Pokes Pub & Game Room on the lower level of the Student Union - a great place to unwind, meet new people and play some games on campus!

    Poke Pride Center - an excellent site for resources, services and community for LGBTQ students and all University of Wyoming students.  Connect with students on campus and connect with resources. You may also connect with Safe Zone at the University of Wyoming through the Poke Pride Center and the Campus Activities Center. Safe Zone is a program geared towards creating an inclusive environment for the LGBTQIA community at the University of Wyoming and in the Laramie community.

    Multicultural Resource Center (MRC)the place for personal and intellectual exploration on academic excellence, student leadership & advocacy, inter-cultural awareness, and diversity.  Located in Room 103 of the Wyoming Union, the Multicultural Resource Center is a space provided by Multicultural Affairs which serves as a home-away-from-home for University of Wyoming students. Stop by and check out the center and inquire about upcoming events!

    Veterans Services Center - located on the 3rd floor of the Student Union, this Center is an excellent support the military connected community. Open from 0700 to 1900, they are happy to answer any questions you may have about the University of Wyoming, the Veterans Services Center, the Laramie community, or any of the numerous resources available to you.


     

    We hope your educational experience is enriched through your involvement in campus activities, organizations and clubs.  Many experiences will not only assist you in your time here at the University of Wyoming but will also carry over into your professional career.
