Course Approval Process

Teach STEP 1102 or 3102

STEP 1102: STEP into College is the University of Wyoming First Year Experience (FYE) course for first-year students. STEP 3102: Nontrad/Transfer Student's Guide to College and Career is an online one credit upper-division course with lessons on transitioning to UW. These optional one-credit graded classes aredesigned to help students with the transition to college in three areas: academics, engagement, and wellness/personal growth. Learn how to submit a request to teach a course in your program, department, or college.

Become familiar with the benefits of the course and the research behind it. 

Learn about the background and principles of FYE courses and any associated research.

Check out the instrtuctor qualifications to be sure you are eligible to teach a section of the course.

Look over the sample syllabus and lesson plans

Contact the FYE Course Manager, Mollie Hand, for an in-person meeting to discuss the logistics of teaching a section of the course.

By April 1, submit a syllabus draft with proposed subtitle and targeted student audience along with program-specific content (if applicable).  Your syllabus will be distributed to the FYE Committee for consideration. 

All new instructors are required to attend an online weekly colloquium series to be trained in best  practices of pedagogy for the course.
