Petra Heinz

Petra holds a master’s degree in Romance Languages (French and Italian) and German as a Foreign Language from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, Germany. She came to the United States in 2004 and has taught undergraduate and graduate ESL courses at UW since 2010. Her main areas of interest include adult language acquisition and assessment, and intercultural teaching and learning. Petra is the ELC’s link to the School of Graduate Education. In 2014, she became an ACTFL Certified English Oral Proficiency Tester and renewed her certification in 2020. Petra oversees the online ITA Orientation and the ITA Training Workshop Series. In both, she combines her passion for teaching and intercultural communication. In her free time, Petra likes to hike, ski, play “fetch ball” with her dog, and cook German recipes.
