Division of Kinesiology & Health

Admission into the Kinesiology and Health Master of Science program is open to students who have obtained an undergraduate degree with a major program of study in health, exercise and sport science, kinesiology, or physical education. Students who have undergraduate degrees in other areas may be granted provisional admission and required to complete additional courses, including Human Anatomy, Human System Physiology, Exercise Physiology, and other Kinesiology and Health classes recommended by the advisor.

A minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 and three letters of recommendation are required. GRE scores are not required for admission or graduate assistantship consideration but can be submitted to enhance the application. A minimum TOEFL score of 540 on the written exam, 76 on the internet-based exam, or a 6.5 on the IELTS is required for students not having English as their first language.

University of Wyoming undergraduate students applying for the QuickStart M.S. program must have a cumulative University of Wyoming GPA equal to or greater than 3.25 and a cumulative Kinesiology and Health GPA equal to or greater than 3.4.

The graduate application deadline for the on-campus program is February 1st. Students applying to the distance program will be considered on an ongoing basis. Applications may be reviewed after the deadlines, but Graduate Assistantship priority will be given to applications completed and submitted by the deadlines listed.

Follow these steps to make your application process seamless!

Step 1: Contact A Faculty Member

Prior to being admitted, potential graduate students are required to identify a graduate faculty member who will serve as their academic advisor. It is recommended that students begin communicating with potential faculty sponsors between the months of September and January.

By email, introduce yourself, explain why you are interested in working with that faculty member, and ask if that person is sponsoring students for the upcoming academic year. Feel free to contact more than one faculty member if you believe your interests are congruent with theirs.

Students who have not formally communicated with a faculty member are unlikely to be admitted to the program or be recommended for a graduate assistantship.

Step 2: Apply to the University of Wyoming

Once potential advisors are established, apply to the University of Wyoming, Division of Kinesiology & Health. ALL application items must be submitted to the online application system.  Your application will be incomplete if all items are not uploaded to the online application system (excluding the GA applications, which are sent to the department).

Complete the online UW application:

  • For students applying for the on-campus traditional two-year program, please select the program titled "Kinesiology & Health MS - College of Health Science."
  • For students applying for the distance learning program, please select the program titled "Kinesiology & Health MS - College of Health Science (Distance Learning)."
  • For students applying for the QuickStart program, please select the program titled "Quickstart - Kinesiology & Health BS/MS - College of Health Science."

Within the application, please include the following items:

  • $50 application fee
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
    • At least one of the three letters must be from an academic major or professor.
    • Note: Your recommenders must upload a letter of recommendation.
    • We will not accept a paragraph statement or a few sentences in the "Additional Comments" section of the recommendation page.
  • Official TOEFL or IELTS scores (international students only).

 

Step 3: Complete the K&H Supplemental Application

Once you have formally communicated with a faculty member and started your University of Wyoming application, the K&H Supplemental Application Form will be sent to you for completion. You will also be asked to provide a statement of intent and a sample of scientific writing as indicated in the K&H Supplemental Application Form.
