Ana Burr is currently teaching second grade at Pueblo Del Sol elementary, which is a title 1 school located in the heart of Phoenix, AZ. The Latina/o Studies program prepared her for her career as she was able to infuse the learning of the culture of Latina/os, which she received during her time at the University of Wyoming, in her classroom. The Latina/o Studies program prepared her to understand her students, their families, and the community of Phoenix better as a whole.
Trisha Martinez achieved her minor in Latina/o Studies in May 2011 from the University of Wyoming. She is now in the process of completing her 2nd year as a PhD student in the Department of American Studies and is a graduate assistant for Chicana and Chicano Studies and the Land Grant Studies Program at the University of New Mexico.
Trisha continues to maintain her communal and academic connections with the University of Wyoming and local community. She currently is assisting Professor Levi Romero and Dr. Vanessa Fonseca on the Manito Trail Project. She gives talks and is adamant about giving back to the local organizations and programs that supported her and her academic pursuits. Trisha’s goal is obtain her Ph.D. and continue to learn and educate others about the history and power of Chicana and Chicano Studies.
Jose Rivas received his minor in Latina/o Studies in May 2015. He is currently the case manager for the YES House, in Gillette, WY, in which empowers youth and families to achieve lifelong success. The Latina/o Studies program has helped Rivas find his true identity and the classes offered by the program brought real life connections to Rivas. The program supported him and pushed him to new levels. He feels that with this knowledge he can do the best in his job as well as help the Latino community.
Latina/o Studies Program has helped Patricia Velazquez in realizing her own history. This in turn has helped her with the diverse students I work with on the college campus to let them know where we came from and how much further we can go. She is currently employed at Eastern Wyoming College as a Senior Administrative Assistant and the Diversity Coordinator at Eastern Wyoming College.
