Our group is devoted to developing validated physics-based multiscale models for material failure. We combine full-scale virtual experiments, in-situ observations of microscopic failure mechanisms, and macroscale tests with high-resolution full-field strain measurements to develop an intuition for the physical nature of failure and to validate our multiscale models. Most recently we have focused on fiber reinforced composite failure, microcracking in porous ceramics, and dislocation structure engineering in thin films. Please enjoy some of the movies (below) that we have produced in our group for better understanding material failure. Read More
