Audition Requirements
Please make 2-3 separate videos, one of the scales and the other of the required etudes.
A third video of solo repertoire is optional.
All Winds and Percussion Mallets: Scales should be performed in eighth notes @ quarter note = 120, slurred.

Scales:

Major Scales--Concert C, F, Bb, Eb, C (Woodwinds-play the entire range that you know; Brass- play up to your comfortable range and back)

Chromatic scale (practical range of instrument)

Required Etude for your instrument (download HERE)

Optional Solo: (up to 2 minutes) Play any excerpt of solo repertoire that you have learned (not required)
Selection criteria: Tone, Intonation, Accuracy, and Expression as demonstrated though the performance
in both scales and the etude selection.
All percussion
Percussionists are encouraged to audition on all three of the following instruments – Snare, Mallets, and Timpani. Applicants recording only one or two of the instruments will also be considered.
How to submit an audition recording
To be considered for acceptance to the UWYO Honor Band, please follow these steps
to submit an audition recording:
1. Create and record your audition videos on one continuous video file:
- Say your name and school at the beginning clearly for both the Scale and Etude video.

Introduce each scale.

Each video must be done in one continuous, unedited take. In other words, do not turn the camera off between the different parts of the audition.
- Your face and fingers/valves/slides/sticks/mallets must be visible at all times in the video.
2. Upload your video to YouTube as an "unlisted" video or to another file sharing
service like Vimeo, Google Drive, or Dropbox.
3. Secure a download link for the file that you can share with us. Please check to
make sure that the permissions will allow us to view it!
4. Paste the link to your videos in the UWYO Honor Band Registration Form.
5. No payment is needed until acceptance is confirmed. The cost for the UWYO Honor
Band is $190, which includes: 2 nights lodging, all meals, t-shirt, music, and instruction.
Acceptance announcement
Audition results will be posted and all applicants notified of the results on February
9, 2026.
All students who complete the audition but are not selected for the UWYO Honor Band
are encouraged to participate in the Instrument Institute on May 1, 2026.
