A reorganization of the University of Wyoming’s Office of the Registrar aims to provide a greater opportunity for consistent and uniform experiences for students, faculty and staff by aligning functions central to core registrar functions.
The reorganization includes bringing two employees from UW Central Scheduling and one from the Online and Continuing Education Support into the Office of the Registrar. Additionally, current Registrar Lane Buchanan will assume a new role as senior associate registrar, a position created through the elevation of an existing position. A search for a new university registrar will begin immediately.
“The investment in these personnel alignments will provide for centralized functions and academic-focused alignment of activities,” Associate Vice Provost for Enrollment Management Kyle Moore says. “At the same time, I’m delighted that Lane, who has been an incredible asset to the university and the Office of the Registrar for more than 20 years, will continue to provide his knowledge and advocacy for students in the Office of the Registrar.”
Serving the broadest population of students of any single office at UW, the Office of the Registrar interacts with students from shortly after applying through the years after graduation. In fact, the office maintains academic records even after a student is deceased. Beyond student interactions, the Office of the Registrar serves faculty, staff and external constituents, as it operates as the official recordkeeper for the academic operation.
Moore notes that Buchanan has served in numerous positions within the Office of the Registrar, through many changes in leadership and direction.
“The Office of the Registrar has been functioning in an anemic state for some time, and I cannot fully express my appreciation for Lane’s leadership and service through the years,” Moore says. “Lane’s flexibility and commitment to UW are commendable.”
