A memorial service for former University of Wyoming head wrestling Coach Steven Suder, who died earlier in the week, will be Tuesday, May 28, at 2 p.m. in the UniWyo Sports Complex. At the time of his death, Suder was an academic advising professional for UW’s Advising Career and Exploratory Studies.
The UniWyo Sports Complex is located south of Willett Drive between 15th and 22nd streets, just south of UW’s Arena-Auditorium. Parking for the service will be available in all parking lots adjacent to the Arena-Auditorium beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Following the memorial service, a reception is scheduled at Snowy Range Evangelical Free Church at 2552 N. 15th St.
Suder wrestled for the Cowboys from 1975-79 and earned All-America honors as a senior in 1979. He returned to UW to lead the Wyoming wrestling program as head coach from 1989-2008. Suder was inducted into UW’s Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame -- the highest honor bestowed by UW Athletics -- last August.
He concluded his UW coaching career with 127 dual wins, which ranks second in program history to only legendary Coach Everett Lantz. Suder led Wyoming to a pair of Western Athletic Conference team titles. He was named conference Coach of the Year four times and earned NCAA West Regional Coach of the Year honors twice.
