University of Wyoming students and other members of the UW and Laramie communities have an opportunity to enjoy live music and food, compete for a scavenger hunt prize, receive exclusive swag and participate in other activities Friday, Sept. 27, in downtown Laramie.
The Downtown Mash-Up, hosted by UW, the Laramie Main Street Alliance, UniWyo Federal Credit Union and other sponsors, will take place from 7-11:30 p.m. at the Laramie Railroad Depot and surrounding area. It’s an effort to connect UW students with the city’s vibrant downtown district, along with the rest of the community.
The event also will serve as a tuneup for the Sept. 28 UW football game vs. Nevada-Las Vegas, as members of the UW cheer squad will be in attendance. The event will be part of UW Family Weekend, offering students and families a fun evening.
UW Transit and Parking Services buses will transport UW students to and from downtown Friday, with buses running between 6-8 p.m. and 10 p.m.-midnight.
The Downtown Mash-Up will follow the regular Laramie Downtown Farmers Market, which runs from 3-7 p.m. at the parking lot north of Depot Park. A number of food and beverage vendors will set up shop for the Downtown Mash-Up.
Music will be provided by two bands: The Locals and The Woodpile, both of Laramie. The music is presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers.
In addition to the concert and street dance, a number of other activities are being planned by UW student organizations. Family-friendly activities will include a bouncy house, and Pistol and Pete, the UW College of Agriculture and Natural Resources’ team of draft horses, will provide wagon rides early in the evening.
In the week leading up to the Downtown Mash-Up as well as during the start of the event, a scavenger hunt will take participants around the community and to a number of downtown businesses. The winning team -- which will receive a $500 cash prize, a $100 gift card to the University Store and more -- will be announced near the end of the event at 10:30 p.m. More information on the scavenger hunt will be available on UW’s institutional Facebook page at www.facebook.com/uwpride as the event draws closer.
