A performance by the University of Wyoming Bel Canto Women's Chorus to celebrate the 150th anniversary of women’s right to vote will be Sunday, Nov. 3, in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.
The “Wyoming Suffrage: A Celebration” concert is at 3 p.m., featuring music for and by women, including choral works, and also faculty and student soloists.
Tickets cost $10 for the public; $7 for senior citizens, and UW faculty and staff; and $6 for students. Tickets are available at the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.
Bel Canto will present a commissioned score written by UW Department of Music Professor Anne Guzzo, with a chorus text commissioned from Western writer Ann McCutchan to commemorate the event. The chorus text, “Circle of Light,” is a celebration of circles of women and friends, honoring friendships among women, singing what is fair and what is right as they struggle together for equality.
A reception and exhibition follows the concert in the Fine Arts lobby, featuring artistic offerings from students from across campus, including creative writing works and historic clothing.
