A Brazilian two-piano music concert is 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at the University of Wyoming. The concert is free and open to the public.
Brazilian pianists Carlos Costa and Jessica Pacheco-Hjelmstad will perform in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall as part of the UW Department of Music’s concert series. They will perform works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Francisco Mignone, Camargo Guarnieri, Edino Krieger and Ronaldo Miranda.
Costa, a pianist and conductor, is a professor of music at the Federal University of Goiás, Brazil, and is the school’s music graduate program coordinator. He has conducted several orchestras around the world and, as a pianist, Costa has performed in Italy, Portugal, the United States and Brazil. He received a master’s degree in piano at Youngstown State University in Ohio and a doctoral degree in piano, with a minor in orchestral conducting, at the University of Georgia.
Pacheco-Hjelmstad has performed in Europe, South America and the United States. She holds degrees from the Federal University of Goiás in Brazil, UW and the University of Georgia. Pacheco-Hjelmstad is a Laramie County Community College faculty member and part of the Colorado Kodaly Institute.
