The University of Wyoming Art Museum will launch the holiday season with the 27th annual Happy Holidays Laramie Festival of Trees Dec. 5-7.
Happy Holidays Laramie Festival of Trees includes a silent auction of trees decorated by student groups, civic organizations, local businesses and members of the community, as well as performances by Laramie community groups.
The silent auction opens with the “Lighting of the Trees” Thursday, Dec. 5, and continues through Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2:45 p.m. Bidders need not be present to win, and all proceeds benefit UW Art Museum educational programs and community outreach.
During the “Lighting of the Trees” reception Thursday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m., visitors can enjoy musical performances and vote for the People’s Choice Award, which will be announced at the end of the evening. The reception is free and open to the public.
The UW Art Museum will host dance and musical performances by local choral groups, student musicians and dance companies Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Families are invited to enjoy cookies and punch while creating ornaments, cards and other holiday decorations. New this year is a pop-up art market featuring local artist Tara Pappas whose art explores fairy tales, folklore and fables, embodying the timelessness of the fantastic and its connection with the ordinary. Saturday’s events are free and open to the public.
Happy Holidays Laramie Festival of Trees also celebrates the opening of the holiday exhibition of artwork by Albany County schoolchildren, which will be on view through Saturday, Dec. 21.
All events will take place at the UW Art Museum, located in the Centennial Complex at 2111 E. Willett Drive.
Happy Holidays Laramie Festival of Trees is sponsored by Family Care Clinic, Gary and Kim Negich, Grand Avenue Dental, John McPherson DDS and Laramie Spinal Care Center.
