UW’s Allen Joins National Computing Consortium

University of Wyoming School of Computing Director Gabrielle Allen has been appointed to the Computing Community Consortium (CCC), a committee of the Computing Research Association established by the National Science Foundation.

CCC members, who serve three-year terms, are expected to work to produce vision documents in different areas important for computer science and computing in the United States. The council consists of 20 individuals -- with expertise spanning various computing areas -- who play a vital role in steering the CCC’s visioning initiatives and facilitating the emergence of innovative ideas for future computing research.

In addition to Allen, new members of the CCC are from Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Delaware, New York University, the University of Utah and the University of Virginia.

“I was very honored to be nominated for this committee, and I am pleased to have the opportunity to bring more representation to Wyoming and the Mountain West region in visioning the future of computing and computer science,” Allen says.

The goal of the CCC is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer-range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus regarding research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives.

The CCC conducts activities that strengthen the research community, articulate compelling research visions and align those visions with pressing national and global challenges.
