Wyoming EPSCoR is a program funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support researchers, students, and institutions in Wyoming by building a robust and diverse research education infrastructure in the state while supporting and facilitating pathways to STEM.
The goals of Wyoming EPSCoR are:
- to facilitate the building of research education infrastructure
- to increase the diversity of participants in STEM fields
- to administer awards from NSF EPSCoR to increase national research competitiveness
The Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) is designed to fulfill the mandate of the National Science Foundation (NSF) to promote scientific progress nationwide. This program is directed at those jurisdictions that have historically received lesser amounts of NSF Research and Development (R&D) funding. Through this program, NSF establishes partnerships with government, higher education, and industry that are designed to effect sustainable improvements in a jurisdiction's research infrastructure, R&D capacity, and hence, its national R&D competitiveness.
Wyoming is currently in year five of a Track-1 award supporting the research of microbial ecology, and is preparding to begin a Track-2 award in February that will develop and compete computational, statistical, and machine learning methods to create predictive and explanatory models for the life sciences. To learn more about these projects, head over to our projects webpage!
Wyoming EPSCoR's mission is to fundamentally advance process-based understanding of soil, vegetation, and freshwater microbiomes, scientific phenomena, innovations in technology, and solution design. EPSCoR prides itself on developing cutting-edge data science training along with research and development capacity in Wyoming, specifically on the Wind River Indian Reservation. We promote science-based outreach, service, and economic programs that continue to benefit our home state.
