Winner of the 3rd (2025) photo competition
Mrunali Dhokne, PhD student (Dr. Ram Shukla lab), Zoology and Physiology
A striking visualization of Golgi-stained single pyramidal neuron from the medial prefrontal cortex, captured using Confocal Microscopy. The image is Z-stacked using FIJI. The image highlights the full dendritic arbor in detail, revealing the complex branching that supports higher-order cortical processing and a distinct axon emerging out from the soma making connections with other neurons.

Winner of the 2nd (2024) photo competition
Rashmi Thapa (Dr. Yun Li lab), Zoology and Physiology
Coronal section of mouse brain from mouse (5xFAD mice) with amyloid beta pathology. Red shows amyloid beta plaques and green cells are the astrocytes surrounding it.

Winner of the 1st (2023) photo competition
Drs. Pooja Gupta, Andrew E. Warfield, and William D. Todd (Dr. Trey Todd lab), Zoology and Physiology
Astrocytes expressing glial fibrillary acidic protein (red) and white matter tracts expressing myelin basic protein (turquoise) in mouse suprachiasmatic nucleus.
