Dr. Trisha Martínez

Dr. Trisha Martínez is an Assistant Professor of American Cultural Studies at the University of Wyoming where she teaches interdisciplinary courses that focus on the American Southwest, Methods of Social Justice, Cultural Memory and the Latina/o Diaspora. A proud alumna of UW, she earned her BA in Criminal Justice with minors in Chicana/o Studies and African American and Diaspora Studies and achieved her MA and Ph.D. in American Studies at the University of New Mexico.
Dr. Martínez’s northern New Mexico family roots extend from Sapello and Valdez, up
the historic Manito Trail to Wyoming; a migration experience she documents in her
ongoing scholarly endeavors. Through teaching and community outreach, she remains
passionate about encouraging youth and creating opportunities that serve the best
interest of her communities.
Dr. Martínez’s newer research specializes in carceral studies, trauma, and healing
through creative expression, with a deep commitment to amplifying the voices of those
directly impacted by incarceration. As faculty for the Wyoming Pathways from Prison
program, she integrates creative writing and artistic practices into her pedagogy
and research, fostering transformative spaces for incarcerated learners.
